Markets finished with modest losses owing to weak global cues as the trade spit between the U.S and China intensified. The BSE index Sensex lost 261.52 points closing the day at 35,286.74, with only 4 stocks in the green against 27 stocks in the red. The Nifty50 index fell 89.40 points to settle at 10,710.45 with eight stocks advancing against 42 declines.
Following the extensive sell-off, heavyweight stocks including Reliance Industries Ltd, Infosys Ltd, IndusInd Bank, SBI, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Mahindra and Mahindra, Vedanta Ltd, Sun Pharma and L&T contributed heavily to the Sensex losses.
In the Nifty index, top gainers emerged by the stocks of Bajaj Finance, GAIL, ITC, HDFC and Power Grid. On the other hand, Vedanta, Indian Oil Corporation, HPCL, UPL and M&M stood as the top losers in the Nifty.
All sectors ended the day in the red terrain on National Stock Exchange. Nifty Realty index fell 2.01 percent, coming out as the top loser among the sectoral indices.
