The Sensex closed the day at 40,780, down 71-pts and the Nifty settled at 12,018, down with 25-pts, after the Reserve bank kept its policy rate unchanged at 5.15pc.
TCS, ITC and L&T were toppers in the 30-share Sensex, while Airtel, Tat Steel and IndusInd bank were top losers.
In the Nifty Zee Enshrinement, TCS, ITC, L&T and Britannia outperformed while JSW Steel, Coal India and Bharti Airtel under-performed.
Among sectoral Nifty gauges, the Metal slipped 2.31% dragged by Jindal Steel which cracked 10.37%, followed by NMDC, JSW Steel, Coal India and Tata Steel dip over in the range between 2.50 to 3.50-pc.

The most active stocks are ICICI Bank, Zeel, while Shares of Nesco, Hindustan food, Max Financial and Ripo India among others, have hit a one-year-high on the NSE.
