Sensex, Nifty rise for fifth day; IT, metal stocks up

Key benchmark indices Sensex gained 60 points to end at 33,940 today, led by gains in metal, IT and consumer durables.  Investors are concentrating on key macroeconomic data, including retail inflation and Industrial Production numbers due on Thursday and corporate results starting Friday.

The Nifty50 of National Stock Exchange settled 0.14 percent, up at 10,417, while the sensitive index of BSE closed 0.18 percent, up at 33,940.

Oil company’s shares plunged to a great extent with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (down 7.88%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (down 7.92 %) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (6.72%) on NSE.  Almost similar ranges of falls marked in BSE also.

Five Top Gainers and Top Losers on SENSEX: Tata Consultancy Services (Up 2.85%), Sun Pharma (Up 2.50%), Reliance Industries Limited (Up 1.37%), Hindustan UniLever (Up 1.29%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (Up 1.29%).  The top Sensex losers namely Adani ports, State bank of India, Yes bank which were down by 2.26% each, followed by   ICICI Bank and Axis bank down 1.66% and 1.19% respectively.

Top Gainers and Top Losers on NIFTY: Vedanta Ltd (Up 4.49%), TCS (Up 2.46%), Sun Pharma (Up 2.31%) , HCL Tech (Up 2.20%), Eicher Motors (Up 2.19%) as major gainers.  On the other hand, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (-7.92%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (-7.88%), Indian Oil Corporation (-6.72%), Adani Ports (-2.39%) and State bank of India (-2.24%) were top losers.
