The Sensex ended with a gain of 224.50 points at 38,243.81, the Nifty closed at 11536.90 with a gain of 59.90 points.
In all, other NSE sector indices remained unchanged except one FMCG index. The rupee gained over 3% on the back of a new phase of the rupee. Despite uncertainty around the world, domestic market began with profit.
However, heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries, Kotak Mahindara Bank and HDFC gained momentum after the Pharma shares rallied for this huge stock rally.
Nifty Pharma index settled 2.72% higher led by Aurobindo Pharma and Biocon. Bank Nifty also managed to end the weekly expiry on strong note ending 92 points higher at 27,468-level.
Major Gainers and Losers on the NSE: Reliance, Cipla, Coal India, NTPC, Sun Pharma were among major gainers, while Zee Entertainment, Hindalco, Bajaj finance, Maruti, INdiabulls Housing were among major losers.
