Domestic shares advanced higher on Wednesday following gains in auto, metals and banking stocks. The BSE Sensex closed 461.42 points higher at 34,760.89, while the NSE Nifty ended 159.05 points up at 10,460.10.
Banking stocks gave the much needed impetus to the overall market. Sectoral indices, led by capital goods, O&G, auto, metal and healthcare, rose up to 1.50%.
Auto shares went up to a greater extent on the BSE. TVS Motor Company, up 6.80%, Eicher Motors, rose 6.42%, Maruti Suzuki spiked 4.77%, and Escorts went up 4.08%, Ashok Leyland, up 3.44%, Bajaj Auto 1.52%, Hero MotoCorp 1.08% and M&M up 0.03% higher.
Bajaj Finserve, Bajaj Finance, Zee, Eicher Motors, Axis bank were among major gainers on the NSE, while top Losers include Infratel, Infosys and TCS.
Nifty Media Index surged 5.50 percent. TV18 Broadcast, PVR, Zeel, Den Networks, Sun TV were major components which rose, upto 7.78 percent.
