Share benchmarks ended with small gains on Monday’s closing hours a day ahead of the inflation data. The BSE Sensex rose 0.11% or 40 points to 35,483 and the Nifty50 of National Stock Exchange advanced 0.18% in trade today.
The indices traded firmly higher for most part of the session but pared gains at the final hours of trade as profit booking emerged in heavyweights such as Reliance Industries Ltd , HDFC, HDFC Bank and Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
The 50-scrip Nifty, which reclaimed the 10,800-level intra-day, ended at 10,786.95, showing a gain of 19.30 points on NSE.
Among specific stocks, Bharti Airtel Ltd gained 3.5 percent on the BSE today and Sun Pharma escalated 1.1 percent while Tata Steel lost 2.1 percent.
Bharti Airtel excelled after the telecom major said that it will increase the number of its telecom network sites in Tamil Nadu by 30 percent this year, while expanding its fiber network in the state by 21 percent.
Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Grasim, Ultratech cement and , Maruti Suzuki and Zee Entertainment are the top friendliness on NSE, while Tata Steel, UPL, HCL Tech were lost the most.
