Stock markets plunged for the third day in row on Wednesday amidst selling force emerged in FMCG, consumer durables and banking stocks. NSE Nifty50 continued its weakness and ended at 11,234.35 down 44.55 points, while the BSE index dropped 169.45 points to end at 37,121.22.
Markets opened on positive note in the morning start, but weak global signals on the back of escalation in trade tensions subdued investors sentiments. The 30-scrip Sensex had lost about 800 points in the last two sessions, mainly dragged down by rupee woes, continued foreign fund outflows and rising trade tensions between the US and China.
Coal India, ONGC, GAIL, BCPL, TechMahindra were among major gainers on the NSE, while Bajaj Finsserv, Bharti Airtel, Zee Entertainment and Bajaj Fiance were among major losers.
