Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty edge down; Infosys up 1.73%

wednesday closing bellThe benchmark indices closed the lackluster trading session with small losses. The BSE Sensex was almost unchanged on Wednesday’s closing as key corporate results, including ICICI Bank Ltd, remained in limelight, with investors also on the lookout of the outcome of a 2-day policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve. The BSE Sensex was down 26.38 points at 29,894.80, while the NSE Nifty was down 1.85 points at 9,311.95. The BSE Sensex declined 0.22% and the Nifty index lost . 0.1%.

The BSE MidCap index fell 0.3%. The BSE SmallCap index rose 0.07%, outperforming the Sensex. The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1344 shares rose while 1504 shares declined. A total of 165 shares were unchanged.

Infosys Ltd, TCS Ltd Bharti Infratel and Power Grid were the top gainers on both Sensex and Nifity, while Tata Motors, Aurobindo Pharma and Lupin lost the most.

IT stocks edged higher with Infosys going up 1.73%, HCL Technologies advanced 1.31%, Oracle Financial Software gone up 1.24% and Tech Mahindra advanced by 0.45%.

Real estate major Godrej Properties rose 15.7% to a record high after company’s announcement that it sold over 1,000 apartments in Mumbai, Pune and Noida across 3 new projects since March 2017.
