At 10.15-am, the BSE Sensex was trading 10 points lower at 40,477 and NSE Nifty50 was trading 8 points lower at 11,929.
Sun Pharma, Grasim, Cipla, UPL and ONGC were the top gainers in the Nifty pack of stocks, while Zee Entertainment, Bharti Infratel, Gail India, TCS and TechMahindra led the losses.
The majority of the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the red with IT, Media and Realty witness major selling, whereas the Nifty Financial Service, Pharma and PSU bank see some buying.
Nifty IT slipped 0.8 percent, with losses in Justdial, NIIT Tech and Mindtree.
Yes Bank, SBI, HDFC and Reliance Industries are seen most active in trading.
