The Nifty and Sensex indices declined for third consecutive session led by falls in heavyweight stocks such as KotakBank, AxisBank, IndusIndBank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank.
The markets opened lower due to selling pressure in healthcare stocks but extended intraday losses after banking, finance, telecom and auto sector shares came under selling pressure.
The Sensex closed 289pts lower at 39,458 and the broader Nifty50 Index fell 91pts to end at 11,823.
All the sectoral segments of the NSE ended lower led by 2.3% fall in the Nifty Media Index. Realty, Bankings, FMCG and Auto sector also declined between 1-2% each.
IndusInd Bank was top loser (down 4.6%) in the Nifty50 pack shares to close at Rs1420.
Indiabulls-HF Zee Ent, Eicher otors, BhartiAirtel, AxisBank, YesBank, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Auto and JSW Steel were also among the losers, while Bharti Infratel, L&T Sun Pharma, Adani Ports Power Grid and Wipro were among the prominent gainers.
