Benchmark indices opened marginally lower in early trade, following weak global cues. At 10:35 am, the barometer index, the BSE Sensex, was down 151 points or 0.51% at 29,497.98, while the Nifty was down 39.70 points or 0.43% at 9,120.35. In broader market BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap up 0.12% each.
The market breadth, reflecting the vigor of the market, was positive. On the BSE, 930 shares rose, 630 shares fell and a total of 96 shares were unchanged.
Adani Ports, HUL, Cipla and Lupin were the top gainers on BSE Sensex while Infosys, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and GAIL were the biggest laggards. Infosys was the biggest laggards on BSE Sensex, going down 1.6% subsequent on reports of the company that it will not issue H1-B visas for junior employees.
Idea Cellular gained about 15% in the trade after the company approved merger with Vodafone India. BSE telecom index was also up 1% on the announcement.
