Benchmark indices ended on a positive note on Thursday with Sensex and Nifty finishing marginally higher led by strong buying in metal stocks amid mixed global cues.
The NSE Nifty index gained 39.10 points to 10,565.30 while BSE Sensex ended higher by 95.61 points to 34,427.29. The major movers on Sensex components were Tata steel (+3.17%), Yes Bank (+2.83%), Bharti Airtel (+2.64%), L&T (+1.74%), Power Grid (+1.61%), Dr Reddy’s (+1.6%).
Metal stocks were the prominent gainers in today’s session with NSE Nifty metal Index rising 4.52 percent. Shares of Hindustan Copper Ltd gained 12.04% followed by Hilando (+8.81%), National Aluminium Co Ltd (+8.67%), Vedanta (+6.65%),Welspun Corp Limited (+5.97%). Barring Coal India, all the components in Nifty metal index rallied.
Shares of oil marketing companies continued to face selling pressure on account of rising crude oil prices. Shares of BPCL slipped 7.11% followed by Hindustan Petroleum Corp (-5.62 %) and Indian Oil Corp (-4.09%) on NSE.
Shares of IndusInd Bank closed 0.47% down post financial results for the Q4FY18, while shares of Tata Consultancy services closed 1.01% higher at Rs 3191.15 on NSE ahead of financial results for the quarter ended March 2018.
Stocks of Information Technology sector rose as the rupee hit a fresh 7-month low versus the US dollar after international crude oil prices surged.
