Domestic stock markets closed the week on a strong note led by global worries. In the weekend, the Sensex settled higher by 0.35% for the week at 41,599.72 and the NSE Nifty closed 0.24% higher to close at 12,256.50.
For the day, the benchmark Sensex gained 147 points higher and the NIfty50 went up 40.90 points higher on Friday.
Coal India, Infosys, Ultra-tech Cement, Maruti Suzuki and Gail India were among major gainers in Nifty for the day. On the other side, YesBank, Zee-Ent (ZEEL), IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank & Titan were among the top losers for the day.
Shares in IT major Infosys closed 1.71 percent to Rs.740-per share, before announcing Q3 results.
Shares of TataMotors closed 1.17-percent higher on the NSE and 2.27 percent higher on BSE after reporting a 1.3 percent rise in retail sales of JLR in December.
As the major weekly gainers on the Nifty, Ultratech Cement topped with 5.34%, followed by The Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Adani Ports, and Asian Paints were other gainers in between 2.35% to 2.75%, each, on Nifty. On the downside, Yes Bank, Indiabulls Housing, Zee Entertainment closed down by 5% per cent and 3.91 percent, each, as the top Nifty gainers for week.
For the week ahead market, corporate earning will add sentiments as many stocks such as Tata Elxsi, TV18-Broadcast, Network18 Media, IndusInd Bank, Sterlite Technologies will come up with their financial outcome of Q3 during the week.
