Indian Capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has permitted the extension of trading hours in equity derivatives segment to over eight and a half hours, to bring the timings in proportion to commodity market segment. It further allows an integration of the different trading sectors of the securities market.
Starting October 1 this year, stock exchanges will be permitted to trade in equity derivatives segment from 9:00 am to 11:55 pm. Presently, the Exchanges are open between 9:15 am and 3:30 pm.
In order to seek the regulator’s approval for extended trading hours, a detailed proposal has to be presented. That should include a framework for monitoring of positions, risk management, surveillance system, settlement process, system capability and manpower availability etc.
